LARGE CHURCH
CHURCH OF THE SHEPHERD
ST. CHARLES, MO

COS has unique stories about a firetruck, a sidewalk cafe and a dynamic team approach to welcoming. "We saw sage advice gained through creative approaches; and we are seeing how these successes are driving the goal of welcoming as a lifestyle."

"Awesome Hospitality". All 120 members on Church of the Shepherd's eight "Awesome Hospitality Teams," are cross-trained so everyone can help with any aspect of welcoming newcomers. They hold community events throughout the year such as an "Old Tyme Picnic" where there are activities for all ages (20,000 people attended this event). They have had a community-wide Easter service in a large arena in St. Charles. With their "coffee cart" at the sidewalk, newcomers are made to feel welcomed before they even step into the lobby of the church.

COS Mens Group, Shepherds Brigade, bought this firetruck and uses this colorful, restored antique firetruck as an "outreach vehicle" often seen throughout the community.
WHY IS THIS A MODEL CHURCH?

We knew this church was doing great things with welcoming when we learned of their large number of people involved in the hospitality teams. Their community events show great outreach, and they incorporate 'Open Hearts' well throughout.
